This is a wonderful journey for me and I am learning a lot…I’ve learned that finding and fixing one burst pipe is like opening a can of worms!!!
Getting the keys for Dayenu’s first house on Sunday was great!! The contractor came out on Monday to solve the problem underneath the pile of water on the back lawn. He had to replace a piece of pipe. No big deal… While putting in the new piece, another piece of the old pipe broke off! That brought us to putting in a new water pipe running from the front of the yard to the back. Great!! Big mess and lots of work!
The pictures are just to give an idea of what in and around the house needs immediate attention.
I’m excited to take in the first Mother and child, but in order to do that I need to get Dayenu’s house in a liveable state. If you have any means of helping or any contacts that will be able to help...it will be highly appreciated.

“Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly, defend the rights of the poor and the needy.” Proverbs 31:8 & 9
The name DAYENU…
DAYENU is a Hebrew word meaning…”It would have been enough”
If only that child wasn’t aborted – Dayenu
If only that child had a house to grow up in – Dayenu
If only that child got love, attention and care – Dayenu
If only that child is given a future – Dayenu
If only that child learns about Jesus and experience His love - Dayenu
Dayenu and the dream
If a mother has an option and decides not to abort her child – DAYENU
If a mother can provide a safe environment for their family unit – DAYENU
If she can give her child love, care and attention- DAYENU
If she and her child can live in the hope of a good future – DAYENU And in all this…
If the mother and child can have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ – DAYENU
From Dream to Reality
Dayenu is a dream of mine that is slowly becoming a reality. Since 1995 I’ve hoped of one day giving the option other than abortion. Being a mother, I now realize a big part of that option is to give the option to a mother of keeping her baby.
For most women, to choose the option of keeping her child, she must know that she’s got a support system in place.
- A good education
- A good job
- A loving home
- Family and friends -caring and supporting
Dayenu is offering that support to mothers who do not have it.
OUR VISION:
To help, support and bring perspective to mothers who are faced with an unplanned pregnancy and who are experiencing a crisis because of it. This is done by creating a safe haven and friendly, sustainable environment as an alternative to the choice of terminating the pregnancy.
OUR MISSION:
Establish a house or houses as family care homes spacious enough for mothers to live and raise their children in a non-racial, non-judgemental environment.
Obtain funding/sponsorship so that the mothers can finish their studies and equip themselves to live a full life and provide financially for their family unit. Take responsibility and care for their babies.
Develop a network of volunteers to assist in teaching mothers arts and crafts and skills in the form of workshops & courses;
HOW WILL DAYENU OPERATE
If the mother decides to keep her child and join the Dayenu family the vision is to provide them the following:
· Living in a fully furnished house shared with other mothers and children;
· Daily physical needs such as toiletries and clothing.
· Understanding her background/fears etc
· Counselling
· Friends and “family”
· Help to finish school/studies
While they stay with Dayenu the following will be offered:
The mothers:
- Creative activities such as painting and arts & crafts;
- support with studies;
- skills development (classes, workshops & projects);
- group session on spiritual and emotional matters;
- pre & post natal care;
- medical attention;
- interaction and working with social services and other governmental and church structures;
- Help to find a permanent job; and
- Day care.
The babies:
- Physical needs of the babies such as food and basic items;
- A nurturing loving environment where the mothers are supported;
- Medical attention; and
- A house & adoption option if mothers decides to leave you behind.
Alternatively:
Some mothers might feel they have a place to stay and they have a job but still need a support system:
- Toiletries, baby products, clothes and food (as the situation requires);
- Group sessions/ counselling;
- Babysitting; and
- Friendship & “family”.
